The Deerely Wrought Sampler Guild is Canada's only sampler guild. The
first meeting of the Deerely Wrought was held in March 1999 and attended by 25
sampler enthusiasts. Since then, our membership has grown to over 40
members. The group was formed to bring together people who share an
interest in fine needlework and history.
The Guild publishes a quarterly newsletter titled "Deerely Wrought
Needlewords". The newsletter provides information on upcoming events, lists
interesting needlework links, book reviews, contains free charts and
general needlework advice. The newsletter is included with membership
to the Deerely Wrought.
At the monthly meetings of the Deerely Wrought Sampler Guild we have
show'n'tell, door prizes, and a secret sister exchange. The Guild has a
Program Coordinator who organizes activities for every meeting.
Activities have included lace demonstrations, antique sampler displays,
guest speakers, slide shows, stitching nights, bring a friend nights,
and antique needlework tool displays to name a few.
The Deerely Wrought Sampler Guild also holds workshops. We have had a
drawn-thread workshop, a bobbin lace workshop, and a natural dying
workshop. Some of our guest teachers have included Amy Mitten, Margriet Hogue,
and Wendy Innes.
Membership to the Deerely Wrought Sampler Guild is $30 per year.
Membership includes a subscription to our quarterly newsletter,
attendance at all monthly Guild meetings, and a name tag kit.
We welcome new members to share our love of needlework and tradition.
We have stitchers of all levels and all different interests. Some of our
members aren't even particularly fond of samplers - they come for the
stitching friends, the information and the door prizes!
We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at a church at 2828 19th St. N.W. Meetings start at 7:00 pm and go until
approximately 9:00 p.m.
