Among several other cross stitch charts, this issue
contains the chart and instructions for Sandy Orton's American
Sampler design pictured above.
This sampler was originally published in Treasures in Needlework
magazine in 1993 and has since been out of print and in high demand.
We were excited to see it available again! The original name
on the sampler was Abigail Eliza Manning.
The sampler is working in cross, back, rice, florentine, stain, queen,
alternating running, alternating half cross, stem and cross over one stitches.
The design calls for 25 count raw / natural linen and your
choice of DMC floss or Soie d'Alger silk thread. To get good coverage
with DMC floss on 25 count, you would use 3 strands of floss for
many of the stitches.
My suggestion would be to use 32, 36 or 40 count linen. I'm definitely
going to kit this design for myself. I'll pull the silk thread colours and choose
a beautiful 40 count hand dyed linen from Lakeside Linen. I think that a few
of the silk colours will lend themselves wonderfully to substituting a
hand dyed silk thread so I'll likely choose 3 or 4 to play with.
We've added boxes for the basic supplies above but if you would
like to change up the linen choice/count or silk threads, please
let me know...I'll be happy to help you out or to kit yours
the same way that I'm doing mine.
