America's oldest known signed sampler ca. 1640.
With intricate and reversible stitches, Loara fashioned roses, pansies, gillyflowers, and stylized
forms above a moralistic verse...The original piece has been housed, since 1844, in the collections
of Pilgrim Hall, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The design size on 35 count linen is approximately 11 1/2" x 33 1/2".
Joanne tells us: "Our reproduction is worked in 17th Century reversible stitching techniques exactly as found on the original. We also include directions for a non-reversible stitching approach to this sampler for those who may desire. The stitches used are variations on the Long-Armed Cross, Diagonal Cross, Double Running (with numbered charts), Algerian Eye and Standish Stitch. Our reproduction comes gift boxed, complete with silk or cotton floss, linen, color photographs, needle, instructions, patterns and verification number."
Kit is available in either DMC of silk floss on cream 35 count linen.
My goal in running these Stitch a Longs is to revisit
some of the most amazing samplers from "days gone by".
And, I think that by hosting Stitch A Longs (SAL) for
them, I'll help myself to work away at them, too. So far, this system has worked wonderfully for me. I've finished one sampler and am working diligently on 3 others.
Other advantages of an SAL are group discussion, inspiration, moral support, and goal setting.
I also wanted to present these not-so-new designs so that, if it is your choice, you could order the charts, kit them and stash them knowing that everything is there for "someday".
I'll be stitching along with you. We'll set up a Yahoo Group for the Stitch a Long. Late comers are welcome to join with the purchase of supplies from us.
In order to prevent spamming and inappropriate posts, we limit membership to our Stitch a Longs to our customers who have ordered the project supplies from us.
