In the 17th century, people used fragrant sweet bags to perfume the air or clothing. The floral design of this sweet bag is inspired by a sampler at Plimoth Plantation. Worked in 1664 by a girl with the initials "E C", the sampler is typical of those made by young women in both England and New England.
