Lucy Barber 1857 Sampler Details:

Lucy's colourful sampler has been reproduced with a palette of fifteen colors in your choice of DMC floss, Soie d'Alger or Soie 100/3.  The model for the cover was stitched using Soie 100/3.

We are offering hand dyed fabrics in Aida and Linen in the beautiful color of Woodsmoke from Tabbycat Linens.  Please read the details further down about choosing the best thread and fabric combination for your sampler.

This delightful sampler has been mainly executed in cross stitch over two threads and some satin stitches.  Lucy did squeeze in a few cross stitches that were one thread high x 2 threads wide.  These few cross stitches can easily be adapted by the stitcher to work on Aida.  This sampler is suitable for needleworkers of all abilities. 

The Lucy Barber chart includes Nicola's usual detailed history and research providing interesting context to Lucy's sampler. 

Stitch count is 274 stitches wide x 317 stitches high.

We are providing fabric cuts that (with one exception) include a minimum of 3" margin on each side for finishing and framing.  In some cases, the cut will be larger than you need in order to accomodate the way our hand dyer can process the fabric. 

Design sizes (fabric cut sizes are approximate):

• 16 count Aida 19.57" x 22.64" ~ fabric cut size 27" x 43"
• 18 count Aida 15.22" x 17.61" ~ fabric cut size 27" x 43"
• 28 count Linen 19.57" x 22.64" ~ fabric cut size 27" x 27" - please note that there will be 2" framing allowance on the bottom and top for this cut
• 32 count Linen 17.13" x 19.81" ~ fabric cut size 24" x 27"
  
• 36 count Linen 15.22" x 17.61" ~ fabric cut size 24" x 27"
• 40 count Linen 13.7" x 15.85" ~ fabric cut size 24" x 27"
• 46 count Linen 11.91" x 13.78" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 27"
• 56 count LINEN 9.79" X 11.32" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 17"
  

Fabric and Thread Choices

We suggest that you choose your fabric first, then choose the appropriate thread with the appropriate quantity for the fabric that you have chosen.

Please note: we will correct your thread quantity to that most compatible with the fabric that you have chosen even if your order comes through asking for a different quantity.

DMC floss – a good choice for any of the fabrics that we are offering.  Please be sure to choose the appropriate quantity of skeins from the drop down menu above for the fabric that you are ordering.

Soie d’Alger silk thread – best choice for 36 count and 40 count linen or 18 count Aida when using a single strand.   Can be used for 28 and 32 count linen or 16 count Aida when using 2 strands.

Soie 100/3 silk thread – best choice for 46 or 56 count linen.  Can also be used on 40 count linen but the coverage will be a bit sparse.  Some people do choose to use this on 36 count linen as well with sparser coverage.

Chart only: $5.50 - in envelope with stiffener       

Complete kit or include Thread Ring/Scissor Fob: $14-28 depending on where you live - shipped in cardboard box with tracking and insurance.

If you are in the Calgary area, we can arrange pick-up - we will notify you when your order is ready.

US:

Chart only: $7.00 - in envelope with stiffener       

Complete kit: approximately $26 - shipped in cardboard box with tracking.

International (outside of Canada and US):

Complete kit: starting at $54 and up depending on where you live - shipped in cardboard box with tracking.
