The Child's Petition 1845 ~ Antique Sampler of Month Nov'21 ~ Cross Stitch Antiques

This is the eleventh release in the Antique Sampler of the Month series being released by Cross Stitch Antiques for 2021.

A stunning floral border surrounds this religious verse, A Child's Petition, stitched by a young Mary Walsh in 1845. Extensive research and a clue of a similar sampler posted on social media reveals that Aglish is not a last name but a place name in County Kilkenny, Ireland. How did young Mary stitch this sampler in the height of the deadly Potato Famine?

The verse takes on a more meaningful poignance now.
The more one discovers, the more questions are raised. Provenance included.

    Stitch Count is 205 W x 245 H

Model was stitched on 36 count Vintage Sand Dune from Lakeside Linen and stitched with silk threads from Needlepoint Ink Silks. DMC conversion included.

Original measured 13.5" W x 17 " H, and was stitched over two threads on 28 count linen with wool threads. Verse and Name stitched over one thread.
