Cicely Margaret Ingram ~ A Little Gem from Hands Across the Sea Samplers

This sampler is one of a series of “Little Gems” that are available as a .pdf download from Hands Across the Sea Samplers.

Cicely recorded on her sampler that she was born on December 17th, the time period 1877 to 1898, Cobbe Place and her family’s motto “Magnanimus Esto”, which translates as “be great of mind”. These were some exciting clues that we were able to follow through in our quest to discover Cicely’s story. We uncovered a wealth of information on Cicely which we have shared within the pdf download.

The design is suitable for needleworkers of all abilities. The stitches used are cross stitch over two threads and satin stitch. There are two rows of cross stitches that have one long thread running under the stitches. We have included, within the stitch guide of the pdf download, an adaptation to the satin stitch for those that wish to replace the satin stitched sawtooth border with cross stitch so that the sampler can be stitched of Aida or Linaida. We recommend that you use a count and type of fabric that you will enjoy working on.

Upon completion of your purchase you will receive links to four different versions of the pdf. You may download all or any of the versions.

Version 1 ~ A pdf containing an eight-page colour block and symbol graph.
Version 2 ~ A pdf containing a one-page colour block and symbol graph intended to be viewed/used on your tablet, phone, or PC.
Version 3 ~ A pdf containing an eight-page black and white symbol graph.
Version 4 ~ A pdf containing a one-page black and white symbol graph intended to be viewed/used on your tablet, phone, or PC.

    Stitch count is 246 W x 164 H.

Cicely’s sampler has been stitched with a palette of nineteen colours from Au Ver à Soie’s range of Soie 100.3 We have provided conversions for Soie d’Alger and DMC. Whether you are stitching the sampler on 28ct or 56ct fabric, with 1 or 2 strands you will only require one spool or skein of each colour.

The Model was stitched on a 56 count hand dyed linen. We have suggested 36, 40 and 46 count linen versions for you to stitch this lovely sampler on.
