Emily’s needlework has been reproduced using the slightly mellowed colours found on the front of her sampler. The ten-year-old child used wool and 20ct Penelope canvas to create an elegant sampler that gracefully flows from row to row. Her sampler contains elements that are reminiscent of the artwork on Roman Catholic prayer cards. Emily recorded that she completed her pretty sampler on November 18, 1874 at the Convent of Mercy in Chelsea.

Model was stitched on a 56 count hand dyed Zweigart based linen which is not available to us. We have suggested a few different count choices in the Vintage Light Examplar linen from Lakeside Linens and stitching with Soie 100.3. Emily's sampler has been reproduced using a palette of 13 colours of silks. We have provided conversions for Soie d'Alger and DMC. Stitching with silks is 1 strand over 2 threads, while DMC is 2 strands over 2 threads. Only 1 spool of each colour is required if stitching on linens from 36 count to 56 count.  If stitching with 2 strands of Soie d'Alger on linens lower than 36 count, you will require 2 skeins of 2645 and 3423.
