Hannah Campbell Sampler Details:

Hannah stitched her sampler in Ireland (the name BallyPallady appears on the sampler) and dated it August 12, 1838.

Hannah's sampler has been reproduced using a palette of 18 colours carefully matched to the colours found on the front of the sampler.

The model was stitched using Soie 100/3 and one spool of Accentuate metallic thread.

Hannah executed her sampler predominantly with cross stitches over one and two threads as well as Algerian eyelets and rice stitch. The sampler is suitable for intermediate through to advanced needleworks. However it is not beyond a determined beginner.

Hannah's sampler would not be suitable for stitching on Aida cloth due to the over one cross stitches and specialty stitches.

We are offering linen in your choice of counts of hand dyed linen from Lakeside Linens or solid color Legacy Linen from Access Commodities. Please read the details further down about choosing the best thread and fabric combination for your sampler.

Stitch count is 233 stitches wide x 289 stitches high.

We will be providing fabric cuts that include a minimum of 3" margin (exceptions are noted below) on each side for finishing and framing. In some cases, the cut will be larger than you need in order to accomodate the way our hand dyer can process the fabric.

Design sizes (fabric cut sizes are approximate):
•    28 count Linen 16.64" x 20.64" ~ fabric cut size 36" x 27"
•    32 count Linen 14.56" x 18.06" ~ fabric cut size 36" x 27"
•    36 count Linen 12.94" x 16.06" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 27" - includes a minimum of 2" framing margin on sides

• 38 count Linen 12.26" x 15.86" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 35" - includes a minimum of 2" framing margin on sides

• 40 count Linen 11.65" x 14.45" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 27"

• 45 count Linen 10.36" x 12.84" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 17.5" - includes a minimum of 2" framing margin on top and bottom

• 46 count Linen 10.13" x 12.57" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 27"
• 56 count Linen 8.32" x 10.32" ~ fabric cut size 18" x 27"

Fabric and Thread Choices

We suggest that you choose your fabric first, then choose the appropriate thread with the appropriate quantity for the fabric that you have chosen.

Please note: we will correct your thread quantity to that most compatible with the fabric that you have chosen even if your order comes through asking for a different quantity.

DMC floss – a good choice for any of the fabrics that we are offering. Please be sure to choose the appropriate quantity of skeins from the drop down menu above for the fabric that you are ordering.

Soie d’Alger silk thread – best choice for 36 count and 40 count linen or 18 count Aida when using a single strand. Can be used for 28 and 32 count linen when using 2 strands.

Soie 100/3 silk thread – best choice for 46 or 56 count linen. Can also be used on 40 count linen but the coverage will be a bit sparse. Some people do choose to use this on 36 count linen as well with sparser coverage.
