This sampler is one of a
series of “Little Gems” that are available as a .pdf download from Hands
Across the Sea Samplers.
What caught our eye on first glance with this sampler was the name of the young needleworker – Lilly Thirza Edwards. The girl’s name Thirza is of Hebrew origin meaning “delightful”. This sweet sampler is certainly delightful!
We know that Lilly stitched her sampler in the year 1887 when she was nearing her eighth birthday.
Lilly stitched her sampler with cross stitch over 2 strands of linen.
The project has been rated as suitable for needleworkers of all levels of ability and can be stitched either on Aida, Linaida, or linen.
Included in the pdf download are four graphs.
Graph 1 ~ A two-page colour block and symbol graph.
Graph 2 ~ A one-page colour block and symbol graph intended to be viewed/used on your tablet, phone, or PC.
Graph 3 ~ A two-page black and white symbol graph.
Graph 4 ~ A one-page black and white symbol graph intended to be viewed/used on your tablet, phone, or PC.
The original sampler was stitched on 28ct linen with wool. If you wish to stitch your sampler on 28ct linen with wool we would recommend Au Ver a Soie’s range of fine d’Aubusson. Call us for assistance with this choice.
