I am so happy that Jackie has agreed to teach this project for us! Space in this class will be limited due to availability of the hand crafted wood pieces. We will keep a waiting list once the available spaces are filled.
Jackie tells us: "Vivid and vibrant silk fiber colors are used to stitch a botanical composition on a removable platform-shaped pincushion cover. The cover is attached to an expanding linen accordion squeeze bag. This bag is lined with beautiful silk and features a drawstring top. Turn this ribbon-embellished cover over to find the tiny stitched linen bars and storage pockets."
"This functional and feminine cover rests neatly on top of the handcrafted wood base, allowing access to the silken drawstring pouch inside the flattened linen squeeze bag. To access the interior, take Behold Thy Beauty in hand and gently pull the four sets of linen floral-patterned stitched bands apart. This expansion doubles the storage capacity of the squeeze bag. Inside this beautiful floral bag, you will find delicate stitched botanical-theme accessories, including a needle booklet, a thimble pocket, and a scissors minder. "
"The project’s handcrafted wood bird’s eye frame measures 3 1/4" x 2". There are four sets of sampler bands worked on the bag body. The inside and bottom panels of Behold Thy Beauty will be adorned with flowers and a personalization area. Kit will include all materials needed to stitch and assemble the project, including 34-count Legacy linen, silk fibers, silk ribbons, buttons, detailed stitch instructions and charts, a needle and finishing materials."
Class pieces include squeeze bag, needle booklet, scissors minder and thimble pocket. Class will focus on specialty stitches on linen, preparing linen for assembly and finishing concepts. Class will also cover methods such as making a platform pincushion, shaping the cover and adding linen, creating a drawstring bag that attaches to prepared linen panels, creating a base and attaching all to a frame base, backing the stitched accordion squeeze bag with silk fabric, creating drawstrings by making use of ribbon and fiber, attaching buttons and the assembly of smalls."
The scissors and thimble shown in the photos are for display purposes and not included in the kit. We will have some lovely scissors and thimbles available in our boutique for you to consider.
The daily workshop fee will be $150 (Canadian funds) and will include Jackie's teaching and travel, conference room space, lunch, tea, coffee, and snacks. A $50 non-refundable portion of the workshop fee will be due at the time of registration for each class. The balance of the workshop fee ($100) and the kit will be charged in full on September 16th, 2020 and will be non-refundable after that time.
The price for the complete kit will be $165 in US dollars. We will do a final conversion to Canadian funds in September of 2020 when the balance of the workshop is due. The amount that your shopping cart will show includes a rough estimate for the conversion for the kit and the workshop fee. Jackie will be teaching for us for a total of 3 days...if you sign up for all 3 days, the total daily workshop fee (3 x $150 = $450) will be discounted ($425) on your final balance when we manually process that in September.
The basic class amount for Friday, October 16th will be approximately $375 in Canadian funds which includes the daily workshop fee and the kit for Behold Thy Beauty. The full amount will show up in your shopping cart when you check out but just the $50 per day registration fee will be charged at this time.
The class kit and optional items are only available to those that attend the workshop.
The workshop will be held at the Best Western Residency hotel which is located on the north end of Calgary, near the airport. It has a complimentary airport shuttle, restaurant, pool and close access to restaurants. Each room has a small galley kitchen. You can view more hotel details here. https://calgaryexecutiveresidency.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=maps
We have negotiated a group rate for our time at the hotel. More information about the hotel will be emailed to registrants in early May. The room rates will start at $109 plus tax per night and includes a continental breakfast each morning. You will be making your hotel room bookings directly with the hotel when the room block is open in May.
Those of you would live nearby are welcome to attend the workshops without staying at the hotel if you choose to do so.
Please be sure to consider Jackie's other teaching piece for the weekend, Gardenesque, which is linked in the related items section below.
