A New Constellation from Plum Street Samplers

    Stitch count is 168 W x 185 H.

Paulette tells us "This design is my telling of the story of America's most famous seamstress, Elizabeth Griscom, also known as Betsy Ross. At the top of the sampler is the declaration made by the Continental Congress when they adopted the flag on June 14, 1777.
This sampler features Quaker elements, as Betsy's family were members of the Society of Friends. It also portrays Betsy's marriage to John Ross in 1773, their attendance at Christ Church (where George Washington also attended), her meeting with the "Secret Committee" in 1776, and her second marriage in 1782 to sea captain Joseph Ashburn (whose ship was captured by the British). It also depicts her third marriage, to John Claypool; John worked at the US Customs House in Philadelphia, and their wedding date is stitched over the Liberty Bell. The headstone in the last block on the right side of the sampler features her initials and the year of her passing. "

This sampler is a companion piece to Heritage Sampler, released in 2017.

Model was stitched on 36 count Oaken hand dyed linen from Picture This Plus and stitched with threads from Classic Colorworks, Weeks Dye Works and DMC Cotton floss.
