Barbara tells us: "The Mary Adwick 1804
sampler is an enchanting work of art. A meandering strawberry vine and
a satin stitch sawtooth border frame this sweet sampler. Mary begins
her rows with an eyelet alphabet, grouping the letters into
compartments. Two of the cutest birds are poised, along with a bantam
lion, as well as her vigilant dog, Spot. There are crowns, stars, and a
graceful spray of banded heart-shaped flowers, displaying a cluster of
lobed leaves. A charming heart cartouche frames Mary’s captivating
verse. "
The verse reads:
To all kind Judges my Endeavors bow
I am not conceited but must Faults allow
Be not too nice my Art is very young
