You're a Grand Old Flag from Samplers Not Forgotten

Kimberly tells us "You’re a Grand Old Flag was written in 1906 by George M. Cohan for his stage musical George Washington Jr.
It was the first song from a musical to sell over a million copies. Cohan was sitting next to a Civil War
veteran who was holding a folded flag and he said to Cohan “She’s a grand old rag”. Cohan thought it was a

great name for a song but people objected to the flag being referred to as a rag so he changed it to flag."

This piece is stitched over two linen threads using one strand of floss. To give the roof some texture it was stitched with the rows diagonally towards the right with Blue Heron and then
stitched diagonally towards the left with Dove.

Sample was stitched on 36 count Tin Roof from Weeks Dye Works using hand dyed cotton floss from Weeks Dye Works, Gentle Art and Classic Colorworks. A conversion for DMC is included.

    Stitch count is 233 W x 233 H and will measure 12.95” x 12.95” when stitched on suggested fabric.
